چکیده مقاله:

Residue curve maps are a powerful tool for the preliminary design of Reactive Distillation (RD). In this study, residue curve maps of the n-butyl acetate synthesis reaction were calculated based on the Langmuir–Hinshelwood–Hougen–Watson kinetic and UNIQUAC models to calculate the physical properties of the system. The results showed that the unstable node branch emerged from the n-butyl acetate/water edge, moved toward the chemical equilibrium surface with increasing Damköhler number, and no ternary reactive azeotropic point appeared when the reaction was added. Conceptual design of n-butyl acetate synthesis by reactive distillation based on residue curve maps is presented. Based on the simulation results, both the energy consumption and the total annual cost were lower than previously reported values.

Feasibility of equilibrium-controlled reactive distillation process: application of residue curve mapping

The residue curve mapping technique (RCM) has been considered a powerful tool for the flow-sheet development and preliminary design of conventional multi-component separation processes. It does not only represent a good approximation to actual equilibrium behavior, but also it allows performing feasibility analysis of separation processes where non-ideal and azeotropic mixtures are involved. Ap...

Conceptual Design of Reactive Distillation Columns with Non-Reactive Sections

Reactive distillation has received intense attention due to the well known benefits of integrating distillation with reaction in a single unit. While there are procedures available for the synthesis of non-reactive columns and of reaction-separation systems, the design of reactive distillation columns is still a challenge. This work presents a new synthesis and design methodology for reactive d...

A Short Method to Calculate Reactive Residue Curve Maps

Reactive residue curve maps (RRCM) are useful for the design of reactive distillation columns as a tool to establish feasible zones of reaction-separation. The calculation of RRCM usually involves great computational effort due to the nonlinearity of the model equations and its iterative nature for the determination of reactive phase equilibrium. In this study, a simplified method for the gener...

Optimization based conceptual design of reactive distillation for selectivity engineering

This work presents some representative reactive distillation (RD) models to obtain attainable region for multi-component reaction systems when feed contains significant amount of inerts in it. One can achieve maximum selectivity for a quantitative conversion unlike conventional reactors with semibatch reactive rectification (SRR) as the best RD configuration when the inert is more volatile than...

Shortcut Node Classification for Membrane Residue Curve Maps

comNode classification within Membrane Residue Curves (M-RCMs) currently hinges on Lyapunov’s Theorem and therefore the computation of mathematically complex eigenvalues. This paper presents an alternative criterion for the classification of nodes within M-RCMs based on the total membrane flux at node compositions. This paper demonstrates that for a system exhibiting simple permeation behaviour...
